On the 12th August the campaign for the Climate and Ecological Emergency (CEE) bill was launched. This is a Private Members’ Bill, and taking it through parliament will be a hard-fought process but it has been done before with major climate legislation. Visit the CEE bill site to learn more and join the campaign.
This is an emergency – be part of the response! Our Future Leeds is a people-powered movement to create a sustainable, liveable, socially just city.
This campaign by the Marine Conservation Society aims to raise awareness of the issue of microfibres from our laundry polluting the world's oceans. With enough signatures they will be able to put pressure on the government to bring in legislation that will see washing machine manufacturers fit microfibre filters in all new domestic and commercial machines, by law, by 2023 and retrofit filters in commercial machines by 2024.
The Campaign against Climate Change exists to push for the urgent and radical action needed to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of the global climate.
The organisation brings people together through campaigns, marches and demonstrations in the fight for climate justice.
Extinction Rebellion is an international movement that uses non-violent civil disobedience in an attempt to halt mass extinction and minimise the risk of social collapse. Underpinning all of their work are three core demands; Tell the Truth, Act Now and Go Beyond Politics. Through civil disobedience and non-violent direct action this movement has massively increased awareness about the climate change and ecological emergencies and continues to work with other environmental movements around the world to keep up momentum and ensure these issues stay on the agenda.
This amazing app is currently under development and needs your help to succeed! Once launched it will help millions of people track their carbon emissions and carbon-saving-actions on a daily basis. Check out their website for more information and how to donate.
If Leeds is to reduce carbon emissions enough to become truly carbon neutral by 2030, as Leeds City Council have pledged, then creating more sustainable transport is a huge step in that journey and therefore the planned expansion to Leeds Bradford airport cannot go ahead. GALBA are a group of local residents campaigning against the expansion and they need our help to succeed! Take a look at their site to find out more and get involved.
HS2 is already massively over budget and behind time. The project's continued viability and usefulness has been debated and questioned multiple times in parliament and its future is still unsure, yet ancient woodland and other vital natural habitats up and down the country are still being destroyed on a daily basis in preparation. Not only is this a disaster for biodiversity, the carbon emissions created by cutting down forests are huge. If we are to tackle the climate crisis we need truly sustainable transport initiatives, not this costly and ill-thought-out debacle. Find out more on how you can join the debate and help stop this needless environmental destruction on a national level here, and on a local level here.
This website looks at different flying habits within the UK, the impact flying is having on climate change and some of the misconceptions about who the biggest contributors are, as well as campaigning for a frequent flyer levy to help reduce usage amongst those who fly the most.
